Our Brand Identity

Our Logo Mark: At the Heart of Any Relationship is “&.” – Brother & Sister, Father & Daughter, Sales & Marketing, Dun & Bradstreet. Without the “&”, you are on your own.

In the writing industry, an ampersand is used to indicate a closer-working collaboration between two writers than if they’re credited together with the word and.

Since 1871, an ampersand has appeared in our company name.

When we studied the ampersand, we uncovered a lowercase “d” and an uppercase “B” hidden in its shape.
The Dun & Bradstreet logo mark combines these two letters to form the ampersand: Dun & Bradstreet’s graphic identity.

Our Word Mark: A Return to our Full Name

Our Heritage

The 1840s in America were a period of unprecedented commercial growth, and with it, unprecedented business risk. So Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) was born, to provide objective credit assessments on which trading partners on opposite coasts could base their relationships.

Lewis Tappan, the man behind this great idea, envisaged a system where credit would be granted according to sound information gathered methodically by men of strict principle - men such as future U.S. Presidents - Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Grover Cleveland and William B. McKinley - who served as D&B credit correspondents early in their careers. 

Tappan foresaw that business information would be a catalyst for growth, and foster an open and ethical business environment. Those goals still inform our business today. Since our first offices opened some 165 years ago, they have driven our progress towards market leadership as the trusted business insight provider to customers globally.
