Background

United India Insurance Company Ltd (United India) was incorporated in 1938. Post nationalisation of the general insurance business in India in 1972, 12 Indian insurance companies, four Cooperative Insurance Societies and Indian operations of 5 Foreign Insurers, besides general insurance operations of southern region of LIC were merged with the company. The company provides general insurance in the domains of health, motor, fire, marine etc.

Business Profile



United India provides general insurance for motor vehicles, marine hull & goods, personal accident, mediclaim, loss due to fire, travel insurance and industrial insurance. The company also has products like the workmens compensation policy, product liability insurance and the professional indemnity insurance. Under the social sector, United India has implemented schemes like Universal Health Insurance Programme of GoI, Tsunami Jan Bima Yojana and National Livestock Insurance among others. During FY08, the NPE by United India registered a y-o-y growth of over 13% whereas the claims incurred by the company registered a growth of over 17%.
