The company commenced its operations in 1976 with caustic soda plant in Gujarat. GACL is primarily engaged in manufacturing of chemicals. Business Profile GACL manufactures basic chemicals like caustic soda, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, chloromethane, hydrogen peroxide, sodium cyanide, caustic potash lye and flakes, potassium carbonate, aluminum chloride, phosphoric acid, calcium chloride poly aluminum chloride etc.

The company operates with two plants located at Vadodara and Dahej in Gujarat. The company caters to various industries such as textiles, pulp & paper, soaps & detergents, food processing, steel, paint, metal & metal refining, water treatment, petroleum & petroleum chemicals, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals amongst others.

During FY09, the company's annual installed capacity stood at 412,550 MT of caustic soda lye; 201,500 MT of caustic soda flakes; 330,000 MT of liquid chlorine; 32,000 MT of chloromethane; 25,080 MT of hydrogen peroxide and 26,730 MT of phosphoric acid. In Apr 2009, GACL commissioned caustic flaking project at Dahej with capacity of 100 TPD. In FY09, the production of caustic soda lye stood at 378,276 MT, caustic potash lye was 17,206 MT, caustic potash flakes was 10,900 MT, Hydrogen Peroxide was 24,359 MT and the production of chloromethane was 31,773 MT. The company exports its products to the USA, Europe, Australia, Africa, Far & Middle East countries, China & South Asian markets.

In Feb 2009, the company has commissioned 39 MW wind farm power project at Kachchh in Gujarat. In Apr 2008, GACL signed an agreement with Dow Europe GmbH to set up a JV for manufacture of chlorinated organics at Dahej, Gujarat.
