Dun and Bradstreet India (D&B India) conceptualised the Dun & Bradstreet – Artha Money Equity Broking Awards 2009 for felicitating the leading players of the industry. Based on a self nomination process, the initial set of responses was screened to exclude companies lacking critical information including terminal count; and firms that were facing a suspension of trading activities from the regulators. This was to ensure that a standard set of parameters and firms with good corporate governance records were considered for award nomination. Award categories comprised of business network, e broking, global presence, retail, overall performance and fastest growing companies. The fastest growing category was classified into two brackets viz. large firms and small & medium firms on the basis of 80:20 principle; where companies accounting for 80% of the daily average trading volume were classified as large companies and the remaining as small & medium.

D&B India used a proprietary analytical model based on quantitative parameters for identifying the award winners. A weighted average method comprising of various parameters that include total number of terminals, daily average trading volume, market reach (cities, sub-brokers, offices etc), number of accounts, growth in business, number of investor awareness workshops conducted, domestic and international associates and subsidiaries etc were considered. Each award category was calculated on a set of parameters culminating into composite scores; thus negating the bias of choosing the award winners on the basis of any single parameter.
