Dun and Bradstreet India (D&B India) is pleased to release the fourth edition of its publication India’s Leading Equity Broking Houses. The overwhelming response received for the previous three editions of the publication, has positioned it as a unique and comprehensive ready-reference tool for the equity broking industry; prompting us to launch ‘India’s Leading Equity Broking Houses 2010’.

After witnessing a dull phase till the second half of FY09, major global equity markets witnessed a healthy turnaround during FY10. Some of the key global indices including USA Dow Jones, Japan NIKKEI, UK FTSE and Hong Kong HIS provided an annual return of more than 35%. Keeping this in perspective, the Indian benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty, outperformed their global peers with a yearly return of 80.5 % and 73.8 %, respectively in FY10.

Further, market capitalisation of BSE and NSE increased by 99.8% and 107.5%, respectively in FY10. Similarly, cash turnover in the BSE and NSE, which had slumped by almost 25% during FY09, also increased by 43.2% during FY10. The primary markets also saw renewed activity in terms of resource mobilisation during this period. Around `550.5 bn equity capital was raised through 73 issues in FY10, higher than र 147.2 mn mobilised through 46 issues in FY09.

The robust performance of the Indian stock market translated into improvement in the financial savings of the household sector as well higher resource mobilisation by corporate India. According to RBI estimates, net financial savings of the household sector was 11.9% of the GDP at current market prices in FY10, as against the estimate of 10.2% during FY09.

The publication ‘India’s Leading Equity Broking Houses 2010’, in essence, reflects how this turnaround in stock markets affected the equity broking companies. I am confident that the publication will play an important role in analysing trends, tracking developments and disseminating useful information to the various constituents of the equity broking industry. Comprehensive data and profiles of the major players presented in this publication would surely increase the depth of information and knowledge. I hope you enjoy reading ‘India’s Leading Equity Broking Houses 2010’ and look forward to receiving your feedback and suggestions.
