It gives me immense pleasure to launch the publication “India’s Leading Exporters” and the D&B – ECGC Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards. This is the inaugural edition and the first year of the awards. In the coming years, this publication will prove to be a valuable resource on the Indian exporting community, as well as a platform for them to reach out to potential global clients. Indian exports have exhibited great resilience, having grown at an average annual rate of 23% over the past three years. During the financial year 2007-08, exports from India grew by 23% (in dollar terms) over the previous year, in spite of a 7.9% appreciation of the rupee in the same period. India has witnessed diversification in its export basket as well as in destinations, along with consolidation in exports of traditional products. Further, greater value addition in traded products has also become evident. Indian exporters have exhibited strong entrepreneurial skills, as is evidenced from the large number of small and medium enterprises involved in exports. |

Indian exporters have exhibited strong entrepreneurial skills, as is evidenced from the large number of small and medium enterprises involved in exports. ECGC has been committed towards supporting the global ambitions of Indian exporters for the last fifty years. The Corporation has striven to provide greater predictability when operating in the global arena through its various initiatives under export insurance covers. During the current year, it plans to introduce new schemes, such as domestic credit insurance cover for exporters and policies for exporters in the Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) category. It is in continuation of this tradition of working for the benefit of Indian exporters that we have partnered with Dun & Bradstreet in this endeavour, with the ultimate aim of making the “Made in India” brand more visible and more popular all over the world. Through the D&B-ECGC Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards and the publication India’s Leading Exporters, we have reinforced our belief in the strength of the Indian exporting community. I congratulate the winners in each category. We hope that ECGC’s endeavour in felicitating and supporting the Indian exporters will aid them in showcasing their strengths across the world.
