Dun & Bradstreet India is pleased to release the fifth edition of its premium publication ‘India’s Top ITeS and BPO Companies 2009’. Although the global recession has affected the growth of the ITeS-BPO industry, it continues to be a fast-growing segment in the IT/BPO sector. Apart from the buoyancy of the sector, the encouraging response received to our previous editions, has encouraged us to continue tracking the sector through this year’s edition. The 2009 edition features 166 companies, encompassing captive and third party organisations.

The Indian ITeS-BPO industry has transformed the global sourcing scenario, and has helped companies across the globe reduce costs and attain higher productivity. It has evolved from offering conventional data entry work, to rendering high-end knowledge services to global clients. Over the past few years, the ITeS-BPO sector has been consciously focusing on diversifying offerings, exploring newer market, verticals, and most importantly, has been continuously improving the quality of services. This has spurred the growth of the industry in the past few years and has created tremendous employment opportunities in the country. The sector has also reported healthy growth – despite a widespread slowdown in economic activity around the world.

According to NASSCOM estimates, the Indian ITeS-BPO sector revenue recorded a CAGR of 42.8% during FY00-FY09 to reach US$14.8 billion and outpaced the growth of the IT services sector during this period, which grew by 25.4% during the same period.

In the backdrop of the current global recession, however, the ITeS-BPO industry has seen lower growth rate when compared with previous years. The financial crisis in the US and the Europe has affected overall spending on IT. It is important to highlight that exports constitute over 86% of overall industry revenue and therefore, any crisis in the world economy in general, and the US, in particular, has a large impact on the sector.

On an optimistic note, however, the economic slowdown has opened up opportunities for the Indian ITeS-BPO companies, and global companies are expected to adopt outsourcing as an initiative to reduce cost. The Indian companies are likely to be proactive and grab opportunities that arise in newer markets, verticals and service lines. Besides, Indian ITeS-BPO companies have also begun to explore the domestic market, which offer tremendous opportunities.

Dun & Bradstreet is confident that the publication will serve as a reliable and a ready reference tool on India’s leading ITeS-BPO companies. I hope you enjoy reading ‘India’s Top ITeS and BPO Companies 2009’ and I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
