Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards 2017

Amidst increasing global competition and economic uncertainty, understanding the role of corporations has become more important than ever. Formed with the aim of operating sustainable and profitable businesses, companies are catalysts for the growth of an economy and creation of wealth. These companies are pioneers in developing innovative products & services and are instrumental in creating jobs and catapulting economic prosperity for employees and shareholders.

Since 1997, Dun & Bradstreet has been tracking the performance of India Inc. and showcasing the performance of the leading corporates in India through profiles and listings in its premier publication, ‘India’s Top 500 Companies’. These Top 500 companies of India are in all respects the driving force of the Indian economy, contributing to 20% of India’s GDP, about 30% of India’s exports, more than 10% of employment in India’s organised sector and about one-third of India’s gross tax receipts.

Since 2006, however, Dun & Bradstreet has taken a step further to felicitate the torchbearers among Indian corporates, through the presentation of the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards. These Awards are presented to the exemplary performers among India’s Top 500 Companies.

Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards 2017 will be presented at a grand event to be held in Mumbai on 1st June 2017. This is the 11th year of the Awards. The theme of this year’s Awards event is "Building a New India"

Theme

In April 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned that India would be completing 75 years of independence in the year 2022. Accordingly, he made a clarion call for creating a ‘New India’ by 2022 – a nation that is corruption-free, less dependent on cash-based transactions, focused on a Swachh Bharat, free of drug addiction, supportive and encouraging women-led development, protective of its nature and natural resources, a nation with efficient communication infrastructure and services, fostering Shanti, Ekta and Sadbhavana, and a nation creating more jobs.

Needless to say, the frontrunners among Indian Corporate India’s Top 500 Companies are bound to play a very crucial role in 'Building a New India', with absolute focus on:-

  • Strengthening corporate governance
  • Enabling, improving and encouraging the use of digital payments
  • CSR activities
  • Renewable and clean energy
  • Development of better telecommunication infrastructure and services
  • Job creation

Legacy of the Awards

Between 1997 and 2006, Dun & Bradstreet India felicitated the leaders of India Inc. by way of profiles and listings in the India’s Top 500 Companies publication. Companies were ranked and listed on the basis of key criteria like Total Income, Net Profit and Net Worth. In that sense, the India’s Top 500 Publication served as a reliable compendium on the top ranked listed companies in India.

Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards were first presented on August 21, 2006 in Mumbai. It was in this edition that Dun & Bradstreet India first classified companies on the basis of their sectors/business operations. This helped readers gain additional insights into the performance of the featured companies.

Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards was introduced as an endeavour by Dun & Bradstreet India to give the outstanding performers among Indian Corporates a more visible form of appreciation through the presentation of trophies at a grand event amidst an august audience comprising leading corporates, representatives of the government, financial institutions and thought leaders.

The universe of the companies considered for the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards comprised of companies which were featured in the India’s Top 500 Companies publication.

The ‘Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards 2017’ event is an ideal platform for companies to demonstrate their thought leadership in the corporate sector. Accordingly, invitees will include Government of India allied Ministries and Agencies, MDs/CEOs/CFOs/CMOs of Leading Indian Corporates and Multi-National Companies, Fortune 500 Companies, Banks, Financial Institutions, FIIs, Chambers of Commerce & Embassies, Consultancy Firms & Stock Exchanges globally, among others. It provides a great opportunity to network and connect with fellow corporate leaders.

Methodology

The universe of the companies considered for the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards comprises companies being featured in the India’s Top 500 Companies publication. Dun & Bradstreet India has developed a proprietary financial model for identifying the top companies in each sector. The model takes into consideration key financial indicators like business size, growth, profitability, leverage and solvency, among others.

About India’s Top 500 Companies

Dun & Bradstreet India’s premier publication ‘India’s Top 500 Companies’ showcases the leaders among Indian corporates. It is noteworthy to know that the winners of the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards are determined across various sector-based categories on the basis of exemplary performance, from among these 500 companies. The publication profiles these companies and ranks them on the basis of parameters like total income, net profit and net worth. Since 1997, Dun & Bradstreet India has been compiling and releasing the publication as a ready reckoner showcasing the trends and performance of the top performing companies in the Indian corporate sector. They are the driving force of the Indian economy as they contribute to 20% of India’s GDP, around 30% of India’s exports, more than 10% of employment in the organised sector, and about one-thirds of India's tax revenues.

The 17th edition of this publication, India’s Top 500 Companies 2017, will be launched in May 2017.
