Background

Titan Industries Ltd started as a joint venture between the Tata group and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) in 1984 for manufacturing and marketing of watches. The company then diversified into jewellery in 1995, marketing under the brand name `Tanishq`. Tanishq is now the jewelry business group of Titan Industries Ltd. the company is primarily involved in manufacturing & marketing of branded watches and jewellery and manufacturing of precise engineering products. Titan Industries Ltd markets its products in 26 countries with a larger footprint in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions.

Company Profile

Tanishq - The jewellery segment of the company manufactures coins & gold jewellery studded with diamonds or colored gems. It has 116 stores across 72 towns at premium high-street locations, with an exquisite range of jewelry in 22Kt pure gold. The

company also offers platinum jewellery as a part of the product range. The company has set up production and sourcing bases of jewellery crafts complying with all labour and environmental standards. The main manufacturing facility of Tanishq is located at Hosur, Tamil Nadu, the 1,35,000 sq. ft. factory equipped with the latest and most modern machinery and equipment. Tanishq is the first enterprise that introduced innovations like `Karatmeter`, the only nondestructive means to check the purity of gold. The company registered revenue of Rs 38.03 bn in FY09. For the third quarter ended Dec 09, Tanishq posted net revenues of Rs 10.5 bn, a growth of 34% as compared to same quarter of 2008. It also reported a 46.5% (y-o-y) rise in net profits to Rs 741 mn.
