Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (Neyveli Lignite) was promoted by GoI in 1956. The company commenced mining operations in 1957.Neyveli Lignite is primarily engaged in lignite excavation and power generation using lignite excavated.

Business Profile

Nevyeli Lignite operates in two business segments namely; lignite mining and power generation. The company has three lignite mines named as Mine I, Mine II and Mine IA. It generates power in its Thermal Power Station I, Thermal Power Station -II and in Thermal Power Station I Expansion. The company also provides technical skills and expertise through its consultancy services for erection and rejuvenation in mining and power sectors. The company’s three thermal power stations include a 600 MW TPS-I; a 420 MW TPS-I expansion; and a 1470 MW TPS-II all three located in TN. The mining capacity of company includes a 10.5MTPA Mine-l; a 3.0MTPA Mine-IA and a 10.5MTPA Mine-ll. During FY09, the total power generation of the company was 15,767.98 MU. The PLF for TPS-I expansion stood at around 80%. During 2009, the power generation contributed to more than 90% of the revenue. The lignite production of the company during 2009 was 213.07 LT. Some of the expansion programmes which are being implemented by the company include- Mine-ll Expansion to 15.0 MTPA; TPS-II Expansion; a 2.1 TPA mine project at Barsingsar, in Rajasthan etc. The company operates lignite mines and lignite based power plants.
