Background

Reliance Infrastructure Ltd (Reliance Infrastructure), a part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group was incorporated in 1929. The company is predominantly involved in generation and trading of power.


Business Profile

The company was formerly known as Reliance Energy Ltd. Reliance Infrastructure operates with two business segments namely electrical energy and EPC & contracts. The company also focuses on other infrastructure sectors such as highways, roads, bridges and metro rail amongst the others. The company undertakes generation, transmission distribution & trading of power and is also diversified in the area of constructing and executing power projects through the electrical energy business segment. The company through its EPC business focuses on executing power generation projects on a turnkey basis. The company generates 940 MW of electricity through its power stations located at Maharashtra, AP, Kerala, Karnataka and Goa. During FY09, the company added 172 new sub-stations taking the total to 5,079. In FY09, the company generated around 74% of its revenue from the electrical energy segment and registered a y-o-y increase of around 47%. During the same period, the company acquired 51% stake in Reliance Cementation, a subsidiary of Reliance Natural Resources Ltd; and made it a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure. In Aug 2009, the company was awarded Mumbai Metro – II project on a BOT basis.
