Nitte (Udupi District): Manoj Vaish, president and CEO of Dun and Bradstreet India, Mumbai, said on Friday that although the global economic slowdown was the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. India would recover faster than other countries. He was speaking after inaugurating a two-day national conference on "Recession, recovery and resurgence: responses in the Indian economy" organised by the Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management here.

Mr. Vaish said that the global recession had little impact on the Indian economy. The Indian and Chinese economies would grow at a healthy rate. In India, the Reserve Bank was cautious in taking decisions. This helped the country's economy in protecting itself from the effects of the global slowdown. However, sectors such as textiles, gems and jewellery and real estate were slightly affected by the recession, he said. The domestic demand was able to fuel the growth of our economy. Bulk of capital requirement of the economy was funded by its own resources. The high savings rate was also helping the economy.

Member of the Planning Commission, New Delhi, Na-rendra Jadhav was among those present.
