I am pleased to launch the second edition of Dun & Bradstreet’s publication on the Indian IT industry, ‘India’s Top IT Companies 2008’. Indian companies are considered as preferred IT service providers in the global market. We are sure that this publication will prove to be a valuable resource for international organisations that are considering working with Indian companies, as well as a platform for the Indian IT industry to reach out to potential clients globally. The Indian IT industry is focusing on further enhancing its global service delivery capabilities through a combination of organic and inorganic growth initiatives. Also, many global IT giants have established their captive centres in India recognising the advantages that India offers and also the fact that it is amongst the fastest growing IT markets in the Asia-Pacific region. |

The Indian economy grew at a rapid pace, witnessing a growth rate of 9.6% in FY07, over and above a 9.4% growth rate in FY06. Further, it is estimated that GDP growth in FY08 would be around 8.7%. The services sector has been a prime growth driver and the sector contributed around 55% of the country’s GDP in FY07. The IT & ITeS sector has played a stellar role in the high growth being witnessed in the country’s services sector. In FY07, IT services exports were estimated to have grown by 35.3% to reach US$ 31.3 bn; whereas the ITeS-BPO exports which touched US$ 8.4 bn were estimated to have grown at around 33.3%. Similarly IT-ITeS export revenues from engineering and R&D services, offshore product development and made-in-India software products were estimated to have crossed US$4.9 bn from around US$4 bn in FY06. During the same period, the sale of personal computers crossed 6.34 mn units; witnessing a growth rate of 25.66%. In FY07, the total number of IT and ITeS-BPO professionals employed in India has gone up to approximately to 1.62 mn from 1.3 mn in FY06. The IT sector globally is expected to grow at an annual average growth rate of 7% to reach US$ 2.1 trillion by 2010, opening up large opportunities for Indian IT companies. Rapid evolution of technologies and internet applications, and the rise of pervasive computing are expected to drive a speedy and quantum increase in technology adoption by businesses and individuals. The publication, ‘India’s Top IT Companies 2008’, highlights the performance of the top IT players in India. As the rapid development of the Indian IT sector continues, this publication will continue to be a valuable information source on the IT industry in the country. Dun & Bradstreet shall endeavour to continue meeting your high expectations of ‘India’s Top IT Companies 2008’. I look forward to receiving your feedback and suggestions. David J. Emery |
