32 Overview of the Scheme The Ministry of Labour & Employment which is one of the oldest and important ministries of the Government of India, is continuously working on improving quality of life and dignity of labour force by protecting & safeguarding the interest of workers, promotion of welfare and providing social security benefits. Accordingly, Ministry of Labour & Employment has developed e-Shram portal for creating a National Database of UnorganizedWorkers (NDUW). It is the first-ever national database of unorganised workers including migrant, construction, gig & platform and other unorganized workers. Need for the Initiative There was an urgent need of a centralized database of large un-organized workers to improve implementation efficiency of social security services and integration of different government schemes. A platform containing information such as the worker’s name, employment, residence, educational background and skill sets not only helps to maximize the worker’s mobility but also provides social security and welfare benefits Key objectives of e-Shram Portal: • To create a centralized database of all unorganized workers including construction, migrant, gig & platform, street vendors, domestic, agriculture workers, among others, to be seeded with Aadhaar • To improve the implementation efficiency of the social security services for the unorganized workers • To integrate social security schemes meant for unorganized workers being administered by the Ministry of Labour & Employment and subsequently those which are run by other government ministries. • To ease sharing of information with various stakeholders in both central & state governments. • Portability of the social security and welfare benefits to the migrant and construction workers. • To provide a comprehensive database to central and state governments addressing natural calamities or pandemic effectively and ensure benefits reaches to the right beneficiaries Apart from the above, the registered workers are eligible for accident insurance cover of INR e-Shram Portal Ministry of Labour & Employment Dun & Bradstreet
