Showcasing the Performances of the Frontrunners Among Indian Corporates

India’s Top 500 Companies 2022

India’s Top 500 companies are not only the frontrunners of the country’s corporate sector but are, in fact, the driving force of our economy. Over the past two decades, the contribution of these Top 500 companies to the country’s GDP has grown 12 times even as their aggregate revenue increased 16 times since 1997. The Market cap of India’s Top 500 companies has grown an impressive 29 times from 1997 to 2022 and currently accounts for nearly 91% of the market cap of the Bombay Stock Exchange. Besides, these top 500 companies of India contribute to nearly 16% of its GDP and account for around 46% of the nation’s foreign exchange earnings and approximately 23% of its tax revenues. They spent at least Rs 153.3 bn in FY20 on CSR and have been providing employment to nearly 6.7 mn people across the country.

Keeping in mind the enormous scale and influence of these companies, Dun & Bradstreet has been tracking the success stories of the Top 500 countries for more than two decades through its premier publication, ‘India’s Top 500 Companies’. We are pleased to announce that this year’s edition of the publication will be released in June 2022.

In addition to the release of the publication, the event will also feature keynote addresses by our Chief Guest of Honour, international guests, and experts from across the industry, as well as key dignitaries from the Government of India and its ministries and agencies. Another highlight of the event is the ‘Corporate Awards Ceremony’, which aims to celebrate the success of leading performers in the industry.

Many senior delegates and luminaries including dignitaries from the Government of India, its Ministries, and allied agencies, MDs/CEOs/CFOs/CMOs, and other senior representatives of leading Indian corporates and multinational companies, Fortune 500 companies, banks, financial institutions, Foreign Institutional Investors, chambers of commerce, consultancy firms and stock exchanges etc are expected to attend the event. We are confident that the event would be an amazing experience and an opportunity to gain valuable insights and fresh perspectives from business experts and peers.

Theme – ‘ESG: The only way for sustainable and responsible growth’

The growing prominence of corporate social responsibility and social sustainability are transforming corporate strategies as well as performance and reporting parameters. Amidst increasing awareness about ethical participation, investors, lenders, and other stakeholders are demanding greater visibility across both financial and non-financial metrics to understand the broader impact on society and the environment. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated concerns about environmental and social risks and highlighted the fact that companies with a greater focus on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) were the ones that weathered market disruption and uncertainty much better than others. ESG programs are now being considered as key components of higher business value over the longer run and improved business resiliency. An increasing number of investors are turning towards organizations that support sustainability and responsible growth. Meanwhile, ambitious targets by governments across the world to limit carbon emissions are being implemented through stringent regulations and taxes.

Against this backdrop, it is imperative for business leaders today to become more proactive, thoughtful, and transparent about their ESG proposition because it has the potential to drive long-term value even though there may be some difficult choices to be made in the short run.

The theme thus chosen for the Top 500 Companies 2022 publication is 'ESG: The only way for sustainable and responsible growth'.

About the Awards - ‘Corporate Awards 2022’

For more than a decade, the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards have been commemorating the outstanding performers among Indian Corporates. The Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Awards 2022 will be virtually presented across 30+ categories including sectoral, growth-based and special award categories.

For the sectoral and growth-based award categories, listed companies will be segmented into several sectors based on their main line of business, such as oil & gas, banks, auto components, textiles, etc. Dun & Bradstreet will then use its propriety model, based on financial parameters such as total income, profitability growth, profit, market capitalization etc., to evaluate the performance of companies in each sector. Winners will then be determined based on a composite score, which will consider several quantitative factors. Likewise, award winners for the special recognition award categories will be determined based on a combination of relevant quantitative and qualitative parameters captured from companies’ Annual Reports/financial statements and other reliable sources of information.

Only companies forming part of the universe of Dun & Bradstreet ‘India’s Top 500 Companies’ publication in 2022 will be in contention for these Awards
