29 Experts' View Leading SMEs of India 2021 How would you describe the journey of your company since its inception? What are some of the key milestones of the company in recent years? SIRO was established as the first Clinical Research Organization (CRO) in India in 1996. Since its conceptualization, SIRO has played an instrumental role in building this niche sector, through execution of 250+ clinical trials across the Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices and FMCG sectors with a presence in India as well as US. The journey we have taken as an organization has had its fair share of successes - from prestigious contracts with Global Pharma companies, to a strategic partnership with Covance and an acquisition in Europe - each of these experiences have enabled us to grow into a reputable organization in our sector. There has been a fair share of hurdles as well, none larger than the recent regulatory downturn of clinical research - In 2013-14, with the new clinical trials guidelines being put into place, it created a large problem for Indian CROs. Due to the stringent regulations, large global companies decided to leave India which caused a large reduction in clinical trials SIRO Clinpharm Private Limited Karan Daftary Director in India. With the new Drugs and Clinical Trial Rules in 2019, it has created a very positive shift in sponsor sentiment and a willingness to return to India for their global clinical trials. This has revived an industry that was undergoing a significant downturn. Over the last few years, we have focused on consolidating our position in the market, growing the number of studies in our pipeline as well as increasing our service offerings. In 2020, we joined the ACROSS global alliance of CROs, as well as established strategic alliances with 2 CROs in the BA/BE and preclinical space to widen our offerings. In addition, we are in the process of building an FTE vertical as well as operational presence for medical writing in the US. What are some of the key products / services offered by the company? SIRO is an end-to-end CRO that provides services in Clinical Operations, Data Management, Biostatistics, Programming, Clinical Trials Supplies and Medical Writing. We cater to Large Indian pharma and MNC clientele, as well as global players for conduct of Phase 1-4 as well as post marketing clinical trials in India. Standalone services in medical writing, data management and Programming is primarily done for US and Europe based companies, with a team of 100+ members in India. We have experience across business models, including Full Time Equivalent (FTE), Full-Service Provider (FSP) as well as individual project outsourcing models. What are some of the key factors that differentiates your company from its peers? One of the largest medical writing teams in Asia, with 85+ medical qualified professionals across Safety Writing, Regulatory medical writing, Clinical Medical Editing, Transparency, HEOR and Publications. To enhance our capabilities in the medical writing space, we are even in the process of hiring expert writers to be based out of the US. We also endeavor to be at the forefront of the technological developments in the healthcare space for which we are currently working on building products, using artificial intelligence and machine learnings, to significantly reduce time spent on drug development (mainly medical writing), while ensuring accuracy.
