Challenge

As part of its diversification and growth roadmap, the client, an established equipment OEM, sought to evaluate opportunities in India’s municipal and private waste handling ecosystem. Without access to plant level economics, the client required a structured, directional view of the overall opportunity size, an understanding of procurement realities across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), clarity on buyer and contractor behaviors, and guidance on how to align its offering with tender driven requirements. A key challenge was also to define integrated equipment–service bundles, AMC/uptime models, and priority geographies and buyer segments to support a targeted GTM strategy.

Solution

Dun & Bradstreet partnered with the client to conduct a rapid yet comprehensive assessment of the waste handling opportunity. The engagement included:

Market and tender landscape scan across priority municipal clusters

Touchpoints with ULBs and contractors to assess procurement norms and operational realities

Competitive mapping across equipment categories and integrated service offerings

Bundle specification development aligned with commonly observed tender formats

AMC and uptime model blueprint to reflect contractor and ULB expectations

Bid readiness toolkit outlining mandatory documents, credentials, and compliance norms

Stage-gate framework to prioritize geographies and buyer segments based on attractiveness and serviceability

Impact

The study provided the client with a practical, decision-ready roadmap to participate effectively in the municipal and private waste handling ecosystem. Key outcomes included:

  • Directional opportunity view based on procurement intensity, contractor capacity, and municipal spend
  • GTM recommendation for contractor-led integrated bundles in Tier 1 and Smart City markets
  • Shortlisted target ULBs and contractors with near-term procurement potential
  • Tender-ready bundle definitions and SLAs aligned with common technical and service requirements

These insights enabled the client to build a realistic market entry approach, craft competitive tender-aligned offerings, and engage with high-potential geographies and contracting partners in a focused manner.
